Performance Management is about measuring how well people and processes are doing against a set of targets.

There are all sorts of methods, practices and solutions to help you manage performance, but it all comes down to a simple question: "Did I meet my target?”

Over recent years the Balanced Scorecard has become the standard method by which performance is measured. This is, in its simplest form, a set of financial and non-financial targets and the measures of how well these targets are being met.

Obviously this is fertile ground for BI and reporting tools to produce dashboard views of these scorecards and then to inform the user at a glance of how well they're doing.
